AI-Assisted Claims¶
As AI systems (large language models, generative AI, etc.) increasingly participate in content creation and publication, the problem of ensuring these claims can be independently verified and challenged has become critical to preventing AI-assisted misinformation. AI-assisted claims differ from human-authored claims in that the chain of evidence, authorization, and reasoning may be opaque, rendering them superficially authoritative while being unverifiable.
This topic encompasses:
- Verification of AI outputs: Ensuring AI-generated claims can be checked against evidence and that the chain of reasoning is transparent.
- Publication accountability for AI content: Formal frameworks (like Publication Authority) that bind evidence, measurement, authorization, and lifecycle events to ensure AI-assisted claims remain challengeable.
- Detecting AI-generated misinformation: Identifying false claims made by or with assistance from AI systems.
- AI safety and information integrity: Preventing AI systems from generating or propagating false claims.
